Interlibrary Loan
ILL Request Form
Interlibrary Loan allows you to obtain materials that are
not available at Olson Library. Materials such as books, dissertations, media, and microforms can be borrowed from other libraries, along with photocopies of periodical articles.
Key factors when using Interlibrary Loan include:
-
Interlibrary
Loan is available to NMU faculty, students, and staff
only. Courtesy card holders should contact their local
public libraries to inquire about interlibrary loan services.
-
The
average time to receive requested materials is 1-3 weeks.
You will be notified via email when an item arrives.
-
To
prevent delays in receiving items, make sure your requested
citations are complete and accurate. If you desire
a chapter or essay from a book, please include the title
and author of the book, along with the chapter title and
page numbers.
-
You
cannot request items from our collection that are currently
checked out. For these items contact the Circulation
Desk (227-2250) and request a hold or recall.
-
The
library pays the borrowing costs for periodical or journal
articles.
-
You
pay any borrowing costs for obtaining books or other materials.
However, you can specify the maximum dollar amount you
are willing to pay for an item and often, through the
numerous reciprocal agreements we have with other libraries,
requested items can be obtained for free.
-
Photocopies
of periodical articles can be kept, while other materials
must be returned. The loan time for these materials
varies and is set by the lending libraries.
-
When periodical articles are received in electronic form, you are sent an email which includes directions on how to retrieve them.
