Post-MLS Fellowship
Position Description
The Post-MLS Fellow is an opportunity for a recent graduate to gain experience in an academic institution and to pursue a professional development plan. The Fellow is expected to be engaged in a professional development and scholarship plan. Preference is given to candidates whose professional development plan augments the assigned responsibilities or institutional activities.
Job Function:
The Post-MLS Fellow provides support to students and faculty using library resources in all formats.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Reference:
- Provide reference services
- Teach library instruction sessions
- Prepare instructional materials, including Web-based tutorials
- Assist students with research projects and assignments
- Serve as liaison to Writing Center and Tutoring Services
- Participate in special projects
General:
- Keep abreast of current literature and trends in librarianship and professional responsibilities.
- Keep essential records and statistics; prepare reports as necessary.
- Teach Academic Information Services courses. This is a variable assignment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Observe safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations or practices required by University or Governmental authority.
Supervision Given and Received
This librarian reports to the Head of Public Services and may supervise reference student assistants.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited school.
- Knowledge of computers and electronic information sources.
- Demonstrated understanding of academic library services and resources and the role of technology in providing information services.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and colleagues.
